01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A short walk from Nogata Station, Kisaburo is the kind of relaxed pub where you can duck in for an unhurried drink. Skewers can be ordered one at a time, with familiar choices such as momo (thigh), shiro and liver, served at an approachable price and seasoned with salt or sauce to suit your preference. There is an old-school pub ease to sipping a chuhai or beer while the skewers cook.

There is plenty beyond the skewers, too, with a broad choice of small plates and hot pots. Alongside pub staples such as potato salad and simmered offal, winter brings oyster hot pot and mizutaki, both prepared as single portions to warm the table. The selection suits a quiet solo drink at the counter as well as a group settling around a table to share dishes.

On weekdays, the pub opens in the afternoon; at weekends, it opens from early afternoon, making it an option for a drink before the evening gets going. For a more filling meal, there are rice dishes such as yakitori donburi and five-ingredient grilled rice balls, making it easy to find a casual spot for an everyday meal after work.
